Our School

Our Mission is to Prepare Children for Life.

We celebrate each child’s individuality and help them discover how they can best contribute to our world and culture. All children are naturally curious and love to learn; we support this innate drive by providing environments that meet children’s developmental needs, guided by a staff of loving and well-prepared adults and building a community of families that actively support our mission.

Our Mission

Children's Workshop Montessori School fosters community, guides innate curiosity, and builds a foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Our aim is to promote respect and responsibility to self, to others, and to the natural world.

AMI Accredited Montessori

Dr. Maria Montessori created the Association Montessori International (AMI) organization to globally protect the authenticity of her educational method. Schools and teachers must be trained by an AMI  training center and pass a rigorous application process to use this globally recognizable accreditation.

We are proud to be and AMI School in Minnesota and are honored to maintain the highest standards in Montessori Eductaion.

Equity Commitment

Dr. Maria Montessori’s call was to educate for peace and her mandate is as relevant today as ever. Children’s Workshop Montessori school was founded on this belief and expands the definition of peace to include justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We do our best to not take things personally and vow to take care of our own feelings, which may include seeking support from an appropriate person. We see the interconnection of all things and believe all individuals must put forth effort to build greater compassion, peace, and justice. We encourage the respect of all living things, giving back to the community, and the cultivation of harmony, honesty, social cooperation, compassion, generosity, and love. We also believe in teaching about different cultures and their beliefs, emphasizing the deep respect for diversity.

To achieve a true education for peace, justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, Children’s Workshop Montessori commits to the values and practices that allow us to be fully welcoming of all.

We commit to:

  • Evaluating and expanding our mindsets (and those in our care)
  • Embracing productive discomfort
  • Transforming our core values from words to policies and actions that improve equity and promote inclusion

All of this is to teach human acceptance and create more equitable systems that honor each person’s unique mix of overlapping identities, including, but not limited to:

 Age

   Disability/Special Needs

   Gender

   Language

   Mental Health

   Race

  Beliefs/Religion

   Ethnicity

   Gender Expression/Identity

   Immigration Status

   National Origin

   Sexual Orientation

  Class

   Family Status

   Height/Weight

   Issues specific to women/girls

   Poverty

Our goal is to provide a safe, caring, kind, diverse, and inclusive environment for our staff and children entrusted in our care.

“Prior to moving to Orono our family toured many montessori schools in the western suburbs. Our first impressions of CW were favorable and the school endeared itself to us. Over two years later, we couldn't be more impressed with the CW community and the stellar care given to our children.”

Conrad Engler

“Excellent school. Excellent staff. Open communication. I would highly recommend to other families. Also - our youngest child has unfortunately, many anaphylactic food allergies and CW has went FAR BEYOND our hopes with regards to keeping him safe and feeling included while in their care... we communicate about the snacks they offer, clothing detergent, hand soaps, project materials, etc. CW has been a blessing to him and our family."
